That’s one of the things that ruined this for me. 737 is one of their best songs I think from a sound standpoint but I can’t bring myself back to it because of that chorus

I don't mind a repeating chorus. Christ, some of my favourite songs are like 5-10 words repeated over and over. It has to be good tho, and I think most of this really is. The only time it really isn't is where the lightning strikea twice, which is the most unimaginative, blue-balling choruses I've ever heard. It sounds like it's about to burst into this huge chorus but instead it does absolutely nothing with that momentum. Honestly probably their worst song imo, despite having solid production. Everything else is rly solid tho after a few listens. This lacks the depth and grandiosity of NMG and I think that's the main reservation everyone has about this. NMG was an impossible album to follow, they were screwed regardless - doubly so for releasing like half the album over several months. You just can't build hype for that damn long, people are always going to be disappointed.

For me the repetition is very obnoxious during the Cold Blooded / IIBIL combo, I don't bother repeated lines, and like you said it can be a powerful thing, but after 8 songs it tired me out.

I still think this band is overhyped. They’ve not been good since Dealer. The average rating for NMG still boggles my mind. It’s objectively the worst thing they’ve ever done. Like this isn’t good and is mostly inoffensive. But NMG makes me want to drive stakes into my eardrums.
