"If any album needed some cleaning up, it would be the loudness in Black Gives Way to Blue"
True. Production is what bugs me the most on that album because otherwise it is solid af. If it had Rainier Fog's production it would be a lot better.

It would be fucking perfect. Dirt is a top 5 record for me, Black Gives Way to Blue would be right up there with it had it had better production.
What was up with this “loudness war” bullshit? I barely had hair on my nuts when it when I really noticed it on some albums but god imagine that record with more competent production.

Idk. It’s not a 5 necessarily, but Angry Chair is not a weak link by any stretch of the imagination.

"If any album needed some cleaning up, it would be the loudness in Black Gives Way to Blue"
I'll raise you one and go with RHCP's Californication instead. To me its the worst example.
'God Smack' slays. Such a brutal tune.

"I'll raise you one and go with RHCP's Californication instead. To me its the worst example."
The "Mastered for iTunes" version kinda sounds less brick walled compared to the original, but you are right that's the worst offender probably.
"fuck all these remasters"
Some of them are great, though. A good example is Propagandhi's Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes 2021 remaster but then you have the Deftones discog remasters which pretty much take a dump all over their albums. White Pony, SNW, DE and ATF are unlistenable and these are made as the "official" versions in streaming platforms. Fuck those. It's a shame they went and did it with Dirt, being their most polished album.

The only thing that can make Californication better is if it was never made.
Sorry I fucking hate RHCP

All the best remasters are always restorations of more obscure or long-out-of-print albums, or albums that actually benefit from the kind of touch-up that the artist likely couldn't afford originally (like Converge with you fail me)
Almost any remaster from a huge band like AiC just exists to rook fans into buying the same album twice, the main exceptions are like old mono albums that got a shitty stereo CD mix in the 80s
