Well yeah, for me. I can’t speak for anyone else.
I just wouldn’t expect this to have creative guitar-work, it doesn’t seem like the point. There are plenty of other things going on.

funny you say that, fredrik thordendal's special defects managed to do both so it doesn't have to be one or the other [:

is it really funny though?

Do they incorporate pop/hooks choruses into their sound? - that’s why this works. I’m sure there are plenty of technical chin-stroking spork-core bands out there.
Doesn’t mean I won’t give them a try regardless, I’ll just expect something different.

Oh yeah you were comparing apples to oranges...
Also this band you mentioned still has boring chugs. Admittedly some of the other sounds elevate it beyond just being a standard Meshuggah-like experience.

to be fair though you’ve managed to inadvertently rec me something I kind of like, which I’d probably never have heard due to my dislike of the ‘shug.
Nice.

Listening to the new one and I remain unconvinced any of their other works will tickle my fancy like this does, lightning in a bottle.

I saw them live yesterday and got reminded of how cool this one is. They played TWO HOURS back to back with just a minute stop for the encore lol, they crazy. They played pretty much half of this one, then came back for an impromptu encore they did not have in the setlist at all, with a deep cut from Sing Along Songs. Of which they also played like half of it lol. Crazy!
New stuff honestly banged live, if they could just cut the shit and produce the last one like this one, people would not have slammed it as they did. But it seems they are pretty poor at "advertisement", smart marketing choices etc. which is honestly a shame!
I mean, they are phenomenal musicians, and the gig was amazing. Hope there is a DSO revival post covid because they are still as unique as it gets in the metal scene.

Just to understand how crazy the setlist choice was: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/diablo-swing-orchestra/2022/spillestedet-stengade-copenhagen-denmark-13b1411d.html
6 each from Singalong, and Pandora. Just 5 from the new one and 3 from Pacificisticuffs, which technically are the discs with the new singer, Kristin, so very surprising choice. As a long time fan, it was awesome.
