I'll never understand why some people hate this thing.
Album is sex. The tits. Been in constant rotation for me since it came out. His new album doesn't have that same replay value for me, but I love it as well.

Just kinda dawned on me on a random listen today:
in the second chorus of "Chamakay", the female voice repeats his lines until the last line, she preceeds his last line so that he repeats her. Nice touch.

album still holds up, ripe as fuck. should prob check coastal grooves

Coastal Grooves has a distinct sound to it compared to everything he's done since. You can hear him transitioning from his older projects to this new sound. Everything is a lot more guitar focal. As a whole I wouldn't say it's his best work, his conceptualization has been next level from this album onwards, but it has some of his best stand alone tracks and it's the reason why I've been following his career to date. Deffs worth a peep.

This guy’s music at its most moving is some of the most moving music ever but his albums are all like 3-3.5s on balance

I have a really close specific memory-connection with "hadron collider" from freetown sound and maybe also "closer" but there are like five or six other songs I know that are just whooooooo baby straight in the gut
