“Dedicated to Bobby Jameson” through “bubblegum dreams” is one of Ariel pink’s all-time strongest stretches, and I’d give “kitchen witch” the nod too but the song before it isn’t a standout. Opener, “death patrol,” “Santa” all seem to me like indices of Ariel pink’s philosophy of shitting his pants as a matter of structural necessity, and I’d say “Santa” feels unusually useless even for him, but whatever. Definitely not frontloaded—bonus track “revenge of the iceman” somehow falls on the right side of stupid.

i almost always find at least a few tracks irritating on his albums, this one might be the most consistent that i've heard. agreed about that stretch. i really like the first two songs too

If you haven’t heard it, check out the single “hang on to life,” released on a single with Jorge elbrecht—it’s amazing. Freshman year baby.

Yeah, “feels like heaven” is also notable; for sure, this album has a great batting average for this particular slugger

listening rn. quite good. the upper echelon of his work is truly incredible. can definitely feel that this is one of those ariel classics

There’s a lot I like about it. I like alternating between singing the full line w/ “in the sky” and just “hang on to your life”; the incremental density by song’s end; how “perpetual-motion”-ish the core progression feels, could just go forever bro

Also if you have time check like in whatever slices you want the production on THE SYLVERS II (1973) feel like it slams so hard:

“we can make it if we try”
“cry of a dreamer”
“love me, love me not”

Whichever…or whatever

oh yes i need to check that still

house arrest is incredible. i had no idea ariel was making music like that in the early 2000s, never really dove into his discog.

The second song on House Arrest is a perfect balance. Just crystalline enough as a chords-and-melody thing, just sabotaged enough rhythmically

it's seriously unbelievable. can't believe how underrated it is. significantly better than his 2010s output that i've heard, but maybe his newer still will click with me now.
