I was being semi-facetious but now I'm seriously thinkin bout it and it might be true lol
closest runners I can think of are I Contain Multitudes by bobby d and To Death's Heart by bright eyes, neither of those are better than Marian

Vox are good though I don’t like how the production/mixing here makes it really hard to decipher a lot of the lyrics without the lyric sheet.

On a kick listening to this. Man, criminally underrated and underappreciated. Cymbals Eat Guitars is one of my all-time favorite bands and this really does justice with following it up.
He started a patreon to work on LP2 if anyone is interested: https://www.patreon.com/emptycountry

Hi everyone,
Joe from Empty Country/ Cymbals Eat Guitars here. Wanted to let you know that last week we released a new EC single, "Pearl": https://open.spotify.com/track/2H41m9fgMLz1iKsA5oBqJ4?si=f4ca373f165c450a
It is a direct sequel to "Marian". We're going to be announcing some exciting things and sharing more new music soon, but if you want an early peek you can check out my Patreon (patreon.com/emptycountry). Just DM me on there and I'll send you a special link :D
Also wanted to let you all know that I stumbled upon this review and all these wonderful comments at a crucial moment. We were all realizing there would be no live music for a long time, and that our lives were forever changed. I was wildly, suicidally depressed. The album I had worked on for years was going to get swallowed up even quicker than usual if I wasn't even able to play shows to support it. But I took some small comfort in knowing that some folks really "got it" and were getting something out of it in the toughest months of lockdown. I have periodically checked in here and been continually delighted that people are still listening.
For a long time after ECI came out, I thought I was done releasing music in a professional/semi-professional capacity. But something as simple as some nice comments on this positive review reminded me there were people out there who cared.
Anyway, this isn't supposed to be public knowledge until early next month, but there is a new album. A double LP, in fact. It was produced by John Agnello/ myself and mastered by Greg Calbi. It is unquestionably the big daddy of the CEG/ EC oeuvre. I might sound like an egomaniacal psychopath, but I believe it is a staggering masterpiece that will blow minds. I can't wait for people to hear it, and to play some shows supporting it this year and next.
I'm not sure if this post breaks some type of rule here, so if it gets removed I understand. But to anyone who sees this, thanks for the positivity. It has meant a great deal to me.
Joe xoxo

whoa goddamn! first of all thanks for the kind words about the review, it's one of my favourites I ever wrote and that has a lot to do with how wonderful and inspiring this album is. not an exaggeration to say that it got me through a lot of really bad times in lockdown
second off that news is the best damn news. I was following the patreon for a bit before I had to stop because of money stuff but what I heard sounded just as magical as this. can't wait to hear it
