Can't comment much on the album, nor your assessment of it, as I've never been much of a GYBE fan to begin with, so as to even bother to listen to this.
However, I did read the review and can't help spotting some.... err... stylistic borrowings from my review of Lana del Rey's Chemtrails...

There crescendo's didn't completely blue ball me on this release. Definitely not there best but there were some pretty tasty jams on here. Cliffs gaze stands out and made me want to go to a fucking Phish concert oddly enough.
