7 minutes Burden slays. I find a 4 minute shaving to be quite offensive and it probaly took the best parts out.
I agree. Burden was fine as it was, as was Porcelain Heart. This means that this EP is, well... boring, apart from Would?, which is still refreshing. This Message Edited On 12.12.08

i wont rate this only because Would? is the only worthy song. its really good. Mellotron Heart just doesnt sound right. using the mellotron is cool as a atmospheric use but not as a main instrument

Who would have thought that at one point in time there would be an Opeth release with an annual vote below 3.7. EP aside, 2.7 is hilarious to see.

well for their first ep they've failed

personally i'd think it would be kinda cool if they had done a death version of would?

I think they should've done two versions, one more metal, and the one they have here

youve got balls Willie, rating an Opeth release a 2.5
personally i think that reviewing an EP such as this is a bit unnecessary. But good review nonetheless.

Would? makes me not rate this a 2

An unnecessary review for an unnecessary (EP?)
However it is well written and I find my self agreeing, though I do actually think Burden has grown on many of us since May the 30th. Still the 4 minute version is quite offensive to us fans.
I'm not going to rate this as it is really just a single not an EP. The band will probably try and retrace their footsteps on this issue in the future. This Message Edited On 12.12.08This Message Edited On 12.12.08

The act of reviewing seems rather a waste of time since, as you put it, the "EP" is more like a single than anything else. That aside, I think your review and verdict is fairly adequate.
However, saying Burden did not justify going on for 7 minutes is a strong statement to make when it's a track very well liked by many. Now if you had said the same thing about Porcelain Heart you would've made more sense since it's essentially a song based on repetition.
Hope this was just a label idea to cash in some money, because it would otherwise be a pretty poor move on Opeth's part.

Their cover was mediocre. This EP is poor. Don't really dig Mellowtron Heart like most people either.

I like Mellotron Heart, the original song is Opeth's weakest imo.
The edit of Burden is very poor though, misses out too much.

would is damn good. not really gonna bother with anything else off this

7 minutes Burden slays. I find a 4 minute shaving to be quite offensive and it probaly took the best parts out. Yeah, that's what I figured. That's why I wrote that those that like the original probably won't be happy with an edit, and that those that didn't like the original probably still won't be happy with an edit either.wait, you recommend Would?, but you say it isn't worth $2.97? i think what you mean to say is that it isn't worth paying the extra 2 bucks or whatever when this is the only worthwhile song, ya know? No, I'm saying that if you had to buy the whole thing to get one good song that it wouldn't have been worth it just based on principle.personally i think that reviewing an EP such as this is a bit unnecessary. But good review nonetheless. How dare you question my lack of anything better to do last night ;)

This wasn't the smartest way to release and market this "EP", but I still liked it.

I freakin love the original Burden. Is the one on this EP the version they played in the music video?
