I dont think this is half as awful as everyone here makes it out to be. At the same time its about half as good as Absolution.
Its got some quality tracks (United States of Eurasia, Unatural Selection, MK Ultra) as well as some unbearable ones (Undisclosed Desires)

I think the album deserves a 3. They've definitely tried something new here and of course "change" in any great band gets bashed and criticized to death, especially when comparing to the two pervious albums, which were stellar. But in general, good album, Muse have always been above average.

No they haven't.

The first four tracks are simply amazing, what you can expect from Muse, but then I think it lacks variation. Again, there is a piano, again it's all very slow and the last three tracks are an anti-climax.

I disagree, Cross Pollination is the strongest climax of the entire album.

I'm just going to have to go against the tide of opinion (on this forum anyway) and say that I enjoy the broadness of this album, and I respect the band for trying something out of character for them. Some songs don't work, but overall, whilst no particular theme, riff or solo is held onto for longer than a few minutes, the album's journey works for me. That's all I can say really.

Fair enough. Can't really argue with that, although I would say it's hardly 'out of character,' more like it's a true reflection of the insanity that has always gone into their music, just with less good material to back it up and less restraint to blend it all together.

better than the last one.
and now let's all imagine Uprising being covered by Laibach (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbB1s7TZUQk) and du-de-du we've created the genre "fascist alternative rock"
and what the the hell makes them call the last three songs a "symphony" anyway?
