I love how everyone is saying the Beatles were "important" and "innovative", which is fundamentally untrue. I agree with the review in this sense that the Beatles were not nearly as innovative or important as people make them out to be. Tons of avant-garde bands at the time have advanced music further than the Beatles did, before the Beatles(and then the Beatles just took ideas here and there), but people still say the Beatles are the avant-garde of pop. Afterwards, they'll claim the Beatles were influential, but again, this is wrong. An obvious fact to debunk this is that The Velvet Underground ended up being more influential than the Beatles ever have managed. Coincidence? Not at all. Similar stuff happened to Beethoven. The Beatles are unconsciously judged based on popularity and pop accessibility, which led to this constant, poptimist overhyping of their music, to the detriment of proper judging. But wait, what I said doesn't matter cuz I like vaporwave? Good job falling into a logical fallacy if you actually say that.
"they took many un-refined sounds from the underground and played them better than anyone else" The person who said this cannot begin to realize how wrong and arbitrary this is.
