I might need to go listen to this fully, its probably a really good soundtrack. I just always loved Apple of Sodom. Its an outtake from Antichrist Superstar, which is one of Mansons best albums.

Huge David Lynch fan here, however i've never seen this film.

All the soundtracks that he produces are ace material, so i can't really raise any objection against the "classic" rating of this review.

terrible movie my fucking ass

has some interesting ideas going on but it is far too inconsistent and silly to be anything of real value to me

that scene where they are in the bed and the mystery mans head appears on his wifes face is the corniest shit ever

inconsistent and silly

did we watch the same movie? i mean, it's weird and confusing so i see how it's not for everyone, but corny, inconsistent and silly just don't really apply to it...

i feel like you aren't very familiar with david lynch

on the contrary, i've seen most of his filmography and once held his work in high esteem

If I intentionally took a dump on the kitchen floor it would make it no less of a mess that needs to be cleaned up

but corny, inconsistent and silly just don't really apply to it...

yes they do, when these things detract from my pleasure

ok, lemme rephrase. in what way is lost highway inconsistent (i can kindof see that the drastic
change of story might be interpreted as inconsistent) or silly?

also, i'm intrigued to find out what is corny about the scene with the freaky man's face appearing on
the main guy's wife. i found that shit pretty disturbing, and i'm not an easy scare.

well I just found it lame, my third or so watch of the film was more of a comedy experience than what I was hoping it would be because of scenes like that. not to say there aren't things about Lost Highway that were good (I admire Lynch's artistry and what he seems to be trying to achieve), but I think his work in general is plagued by many scenes which are unnecessary and don't serve any function other than to just provide some kind of unique aesthetic experience to the viewer. When this fails to connect with me i'm left with nothing, and it ruins the whole package.

The only film I think he and his team got right was Mulholland Drive, and a couple of his short films (The Alphabet in particular, I remember being impressed by). Twin Peaks was a good series, too.

i happen to have a fascination with those experiences ; ) . sorry if i was abrasive before but your descriptions here seem far more legitimate than the ones you were bringing up before. i guess if i had seen that scene 3 times it might be kindof corny the third time through but it was so shocking the 1st and don't think it's got too much replay value. no doubt mulholland drive is his masterpiece too amongst those i've seen.

o and the alphabet is bizarre. fascinating, but like un chien andalou weird.

flavor of lynch set to an awesome song anyone? -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZTRStYJVPQ

well, yeah. you didn't seem abrasive, I did owe you a proper explanation. surrealism is touchy for me, it has to be done in a certain way or I don't enjoy it. I prefer it to be used to embellish more straightforward narratives, such as Buñuel's Belle De Jour, Jean Cocteau's Beauty and The Beast and even say, sci-fi like David Cronenberg's Videodrome, Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker or Ken Russell's Altered States. Films that are entirely based around it like L'Age d'Or I find painful to sit through, even worse is when the director actually did intend every single unexplainable moment to symbolise references to obscure literature, esoteric art and ancient mexican plays nobody cares about (i'm looking at you, Alejandro Jodorowsky). Regardless, I do enjoy El Topo, The Holy Mountain and Santa Sangre to some degree.

Lynch isn't pure surrealism, of course, but my main criticisms always tend to come from when he tries to use it.

meatplow do u also find it corny when the crazy hobo face appears behind the restaurant in mo

well, not so much. that film had a better visual impact for me

several things like the cowboy, the vacuum cleaner and the paint being poured into the jewellery box when that couple are fighting bother me when I try to rewatch it. apart from that, I find it genuinely horrifying. there is just this empty, dead feeling I get from no other film seeing those people dancing at the beginning, for instance. or those creepy old people
