I've gotta check out that Nai Harvest record, I heard the song Hold Open My Head and I really dug it

Most emo revival bands need to start releasing 4 or 5 song EPs instead

The LP is a lot more up-beat. It reminds me a lot of Snowing but only it doesn't at the same time.

But yeah, now that I think about it, most of the current emo revival bands are kinda disappointing. I think the only bands out of the emo-revival I've really liked are YBI, TWIABP and Empire Empire (and Snowing, but they're gone)

I quite liked Brave Bird and Tiny Moving Parts' first albums but now I'm afraid they're going to blow it on the second album

Even on the skram side so much of it sounds the same. All the regional differences are now gone, outside of the french bands still sound french, but other than that it's just a melange of eh. For me this whole current emo thing sorta tailed massively after Snowing hung it up and screamo followed soon after with the death of Comadre. I'm not saying there isn't cool stuff out there, but just the quality of the movements overall.

Hey Hep is that Manners band worth listening to? I saw their similar artists on Last.fm and laughed
that the not good not UK Harbours was there and that's been keeping me from checking it even though it
has a ton of hype. (Keep in mind that the only Melodic Hardcore record that I even listen to anymore
is Twilight)

There's just not enough real innovation to make most of these bands very interesting

New Manners is fuckin great, like Loma Prieta mixed with OG Defeater and a hint of Barrow

I hate Barrow but that first part sounds cool. I'll add it to the phone tonight so I can jam it at work.

Really digging this album personally, just as solid as Grow Up, Dude was.

idk this isn't THAT bad. It's like 3.2 right now. But it fails hard compared to their debut which was in my top 5 of 2012.
Gotta love that explosion of Pinball House

adam why do you hate barrow now

I think even the most derivative emo revival/screamo bands are boring at worst. Can't hate any of them if they've got the right noodly guitars and tom-heavy drum parts I guess.
I actually like this a lot more than I liked Grow Up, Dude. Maybe I need to listen to that album again.

@shitsofrain i only regret writing one review, that barrow review. I haven't liked them in a long ass
time and really looking back only marginally enjoyed that first record. If you want me to elaborate,
ask me off the site.

I don't even mean they sound like Barrow, I mean more like the atmosphere of Though I'm Alone, like Manners got a bit of a black metal tinge going on, there's even a blast beat and trem section in one song wow

You guys are hating wayyyy too hard on this.
|

way too many fans of midwestern emo just gobble up whatever derivative garbage is shoveled at them
definitely not saying that YBI! is in that category, but I mean this album isn't awesome imo

not that it doesn't happen in other genres, obviously, where people are much much more concerned with a band merely taking part in a style as opposed to valuing the quality of that interpretation of it / whatever; but I dunno, I feel like it happens more here
100 Essential Midwestern Emo Releases!!!
omg shut up there are not 100 essential releases of this style that's just silly...
