Lucky you....they never came to Florida. Must have been sick. Did they play The Swarm, Flames Of The End, and Raped By The Light Of Christ?

Good review, but honestly, Forever Blind is my favourite song on this album, or tied with The Swarm. The chorus riff and the intro of Forever Blind? Seriously it's some of the catchiest guitar riffing I've ever heard. But that may also be because I've covered this song and get to experience the riffs first-hand that one, really enjoyable to listen to and play... like all At the Gates though.

Holy shit when I bought this album that included the 3 live tracks the memory on Itunes it took up was exactly 66.6. That's crazy. Anyways, yeah, this album is really good even though it's too short.

This review is well written, but I disagree totally with the outcome. This album is "OK", but nothing special; it lacks the songwriting of true Death Metal.

Really good album. Slaughter of the Soul is better, but this is still some awesome melo-death. I guess you can't really get the effect of a full length album since there's only 6 actual songs.

'Terminal spirit disease' marks the distinct transition from their rawer material on 'With fear...' to their cleaner edge on 'Slaughter of the Soul'. Nonetheless, this album has some remarkable sounds, as on the title track and 'The Swarm'.

Gardens of Grief slays this to pieces

I disagree with how the reviewer gave 5/9 songs a rating that is less than/equal to 3, yet gave the album a 5/5. Makes absolutely no sense.

the live tracks are definitely the best stuff on here

pissbore: Are you one of the fans who prefers ATG's first two albums to their last two albums?
I feel like the songs themselves (the live songs) are pretty mediocre. The sound quality is decent enough for a live performance in the early 90's I suppose, but I'm just not a big fan of the songs.

I disagree. Gardens of Grief is solid, and The Red in the Sky is Ours is pretty unique, but unfortunately the latter suffers from absolutely horrible production. I need to re-listen to With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness, but I just remember it boring me in the past.
Though you can consider their earlier albums much heavier and more brutal, a lot of the songs seem like an poor amalgamation of ideas to me. Even the band members themselves have said something similar; their songwriting was not quite up to par yet prior to Terminal Spirit Disease and Slaughter of the Soul.
Honestly, if The Red in the Sky is Ours was to be remastered, I think I'd enjoy that album significantly more. There's no excuse, considering that their Gardens of Grief EP sounds just fine. The guitar tone is nice and thick and not overpowered by the drums.

TRITSIO rules hard, and the production is perfect, even if the band themselves weren't happy with it. to me it's why it still sounds so unique compared to all the same-sounding stuff coming out around the same time. it's so dry and grating and it really fits the music perfectly, giving it a bone-chilling atmosphere which is certainly lacking on the later stuff.
the reason the earlier albums are better imo is because the songs were complex, twisted, psychotic and very eerie sounding, where on this and SotS especially its much simpler stuff that's quite boring compared to what they had done before. the dark, haunting vibe from the first 2 albums and EP is gone.
another big thing that bothers me is the drumming, adrian erlandsson had such a unique, chaotic style on the early material and then he just went for a much more straightforward style, lacking the idiosyncrasies and nuances of his prior performances. his drumming on the early stuff is another thing that made those albums really stand out
