This grew off most people so much, so i'm not surprised now that the hype is pretty much over

Fortunately the majority (of regular users) seem to have come to their senses and now think otherwise.

Heritage is indeed significantly better.

i haven't been around here in a few weeks but to me that just sounds like the anti hype train pulled into the station and everyone is getting on.

i may not be a huge fan of heritage as a whole, but it definitely has more personality than this. heritage has a lot of "wtf" moments (both good and bad) whereas this feels a lot more streamlined and, as a result, uninteresting. both have their strengths and weaknesses but i enjoy heritage more cause it takes more risks, even if not all of them turned out great

Nah it's just that the original hype train has moved on and stopped obscuring everyone's vision/hearing.

fair enough. i like the more streamlined and consistent approach this takes. the wtf moments on heritage are too wtf for my tastes

Heritage is more memorable than this and maybe even more inspired

Definitely both, yet at the same time I can see why a lot Opeth fans might prefer this album's approach, even if it was a big step back in my opinion.

i find it weird that some people who called heritage a 70's prog ripoff are digging this. their influences are way more

apparent on this (tull, genesis, camel mostly), which is probably why it doesnt do much for me, id rather just listen to

those bands

The best songs from each album are about the same level to me

This does have better songs and is more accessible, but overall quite bland, so it's only slightly better due to accessibility for

me
