I love all those songs. You got me hyped, my man.
tbh, i'm not sure if there's a song on

here as good as trouble or state of grace. but if you dug those, then you should def dig this.

"as an adult who has matured rather noticeably since writing [....]"

I'm sorry. but no. How are lyrics like "haters gonna hate hate hate, players gonna play play play" any

more mature. They are just a different brand of immature.
that's great and all, but is that the

only song you've listened to or what
Taylor Swift did not do what she was meant to do, she just

finally gave in to the pressure and became a lady gaga, katy perry, miley cyrus knock off who has

barely any personality left.
this has much more in common with chvrches, lana del rey, and

lorde than any of those.

I'm saying her view on relationships has matured. But now that it's been brought up, she's matured in general. In case nobody has figured it out yet, 'Shake It Off' is ironic and covers a lot of the things she's not.

6-2 baby! This might be our year!

It's not even maturity, it's just written differently. Look at Mean compared to Shake it Off. Mean singles out one critic, talks about a very personal reaction to it and leaves him behind with an empowering statement about how she'll be 'living in a big ol' city.' Shake it Off, instead, uses broad generalizations, address ALL the critics, and leaves them behind with an empowering statement about how she'll 'shake it off.' The only difference is one is a pop anthem and the other has a mandolin. Tell me this is her 'maturing'

That's totally not it at all. On "Mean" she takes her critics so seriously. On the live tour DVD she even pauses after the "about how I can't sing" line and stares into the camera as if to be like I'm a famous singer now, so I win. "Shake It Off" just doesn't waste its time worrying about it, she's steering into the joke. To me that's more mature than getting all upset.

There's been surprisingly very little commentary on how about a 1/3 of the album copped Chvrches whole throwback 80s flow (not including the bonus tracks which are also all in that vein), how another 1/3 is more of general singer-songwriter schtick but with less twang and more pop, and then another 1/3 is all basically her conforming to a very typical pop trend of like Perry-esque sounds and this vague trap influence.

It's probably also her best album to date as far as production, despite it being devoid of originality or creativity or personality.

But isn't the music video of her doing all these different styles of dance supposedly without a care

in the world just her way of getting back at the anonymous people spreading .gifs of her at awards

shows around on Tumblr? She can't see them, she can't latch on to certain words, but they're not

famous- so she makes the video rubbing it in their faces

I never saw it as her rubbing it in their faces, and I don't think it's intended to be taken that way. There's a difference between saying fuck you and saying I'm too happy to stoop to it, so I'm just going to dance in the rain.

why has no one said the most obvious thing: Kimbra already made this album earlier this year, and it was a trillion times better than this. Really hoping this grows on me, but I dunno. Also, fuck yes Lions, as a long-suffering fan, looks like they might actually be consistent this year.

Kimbra's album was noticeably retro-leaning as well in its sound, I think they are pretty aesthetically similar.
