i can formulate a pretty strong opinion of an album after ~2 listens and my feelings for it rarely change, maybe im the minority but i think that would be similar for most people who have spent years listening to piles of music with a critical ear

i dont have the time or motivation to write reviews but if i did i know i could have wrote one for this within the first day of hearing it given ive been listening to kanye since he dropped tcd

"It's clear listening to this that critics were too hasty to review this, and Kanye was too hasty to release this. Everything sounds so rushed and tacked on."

Isn't this a hasty conclusion?

That Pretty Much Amazing one comes to mind. The White Album comparison seems a little overboard.

Edit: On further listening I actually see where they're coming from with the comparison. Fair enough.

Having listened to an artists' discography doesn't automatically mean your review will be good though. Not a slight, just saying posting a review after hearing an album for one day usually shows.

album reviewers tend to be hack writers almost by default (unless you're reviewing some old-balls classic and have months to write it if you so desire). it's just unrealistic to expect a writer to be both on the ball with new releases AND write something immaculate. plus, why is Kanye more deserving of such analysis when there are hundreds of other rappers who don't have any coverage whatsoever? not tryna shit on you swope, but I'm disagreeing fo sha

they justify the white album comparison by saying he is reaching the likely end of his studio album run with a bit of a succinct compilation in sound, i see nothing wrong with that

for sure, especially when it comes to things as blatantly subjective as opinions on music (art)

@guitarded But if you don't write reviews, you can't really speak for those people. Having an opinion and a critical ear is different than having to convey it through a review.

@johnny There are indeed other artists deserving of much more attention. I don't expect something immaculate. I understand that reviewing music is a tough profession and that they're not here to write encyclopedias.

And yeah of course. Music reviewing/scoring is inherently subjective.

you're right but i would say that so long as one has that skill and ability they could convey their thoughts and opinions through the writing medium pretty quickly

i don't think writing a short essay on a topic one is quite familiar with takes all that much time or brainpower honestly.

not denying that some people would rush to be the first ones with their opinion out on the airwaves for a majorly popular album such as this just for attention

No I agree. I was commenting more on the reviews of this album I read specifically. If you're good at reviewing it becomes almost mechanical, so I understand the quick turnaround.
