also I wouldn't call the mini tracks pointless, they do a great job of showcasing the timbral capabilities of the cheetah ms800 synth

I agree that they're interesting in terms of timbre, but they still don't sound like complete musical thoughts to me.

may as well call everything after a hiatus a comeback release by that logic

I asked about the alternate version on watmm, hopefully they will have answers

someone else said they think it's fake. if it is then I feel stupid. I enjoyed it a lot though so it didn't really occur to me it could be fake

"I'm referring to SYRO, Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt. 2, and this as "comeback releases" because of his long hiatus before releasing SYRO. Do you think I'm wrong in doing so? I'd be happy to change it."

I was wondering what you meant by that too considering he's been consistently releasing stuff lately but now that you explain it makes sense I guess.

Enjoyed this EP, I can always rely on Aphex Twin making for a memorable listen. Plus, it's cool to see James return to more "repetitive" music, the kinda songs that slowly unpack themselves the longer you listen. Takes me back to his ambient releases some.

Did also enjoy the strangeness of Syro though, so I'll probably be cool with however the next Aphex release comes out. Hope he remains active for awhile

I enjoyed SYRO quite a bit too. I just think it would be cool if James tried to return to his roots. I hope he makes another ambient album in the future, or at least something more minimalistic than this.

Yeah, I get that viewpoint for sure. Plus, even if they're not the same kinda artists really, we have Autechre releasing five hour EP collections and so forth haha, I feel like I have forever to delve into all that

I might join you, Tyler, but we'll see. I definitely can't see myself returning to this as much as his other releases.

I hope he releases something else in the vein of rdj album or drukqs

I feel like he kind of exhausted that style, what with those two albums AND the Come to Daddy EP... But to each their own.
