think there's a pretty thick 3.5 ceiling on this for me, pretty much just Trent fucking around

I could see that but if he just kept the dark vibes as good as they were for the first 3 tracks, I would like this more

Bad enough to drop the rating?

I like how the intensity has returned but I feel like this lacks some direction or something
This is good but not a top tier release or anything esp. by NIN standards. It does have me excited for future material created in this vein though.

@FOS yeah, that bad
@SS I agree it is nice to have the intensity back but the lack of focus on this makes me prefer Hesitation Marks. That album has its flaws for sure, but it has a meticulous, deliberate feel that these songs don't (minus Dear World which rules pretty hard)

Year Zero bro

Too glitchy for it's own good. "Survivalism" is still a jam.

That's what I love about it. Weird and catchy. And yeah Survivalism rules

It's all right. Takes some might to get through the record.
My favorite full length record from Reznor since With Teeth is The Social Network soundtrack. There's not an out of place moment on the thing.

This is infinitely better than hesitation marks.

Branches/Bones reminds me of Year Zero whereas Dear World reminded me of Hesitation Marks. The only songs on here that gave a nod to earlier NIN are The Idea Of You and She's Gone Away. I'm thinking because they have more of an aggressive undertone than the other ones. I'm not too sure where Trent's going with this, but it's a little more exciting than Hesitation Marks was (too much minimalism for me). I think he's testing the waters, I like it, but some parts I wasn't as thrilled about as others. All in all good EP.. needs a fistfuck line!
