Boney I need to put up an Eitzel sad boy tune top 10, there's more where that one came from.
That is definitely top 3 here though, perfect song.

FoS I don't expect everyone to 5 this. I'm someone who has listened to this dude for 15 years over 20+ albums. On the 'Eitzel scale' that for me runs from a 2 ('Candy Ass') to a 5 ('California') this is a 5. All the albums are somewhere on that scale. I've reviewed two other solo Eitzel on Sput at a 3.5 ('Don't Be a Stranger', this albums predecessor) and a 4 ('60 Watt Silver Lining', his solo debut). I don't feel like I'm blind fanboying this to death, I have spun it a lot.

Can't go wrong with California, I feel like that one's appeal is a bit more universal than this one's but maybe that's just me.

This is the only Eitzel album where I think every song is at least very good/excellent. He's notorious for dropping clangers on otherwise good albums (take a peak at 'Hello Amsterdam', 'Bad Liquor', 'Crabwalk')

If you ignore "Bad Liquor" California is pretty consistent I'd say.

I'd have thought this is way more obviously appealing than California which is very mumbly/moody/atmospheric.
The critics all love this so I'm really pleased for Eitzel he's getting some recognition. This could have easily ended up a self released album selling about 200 copies.

Yeah I bumped California to a 5, it's untouchable.
Western Sky/Blue and Grey Shirt/Last Harbour vs Singer & Ham/Humphries/Nothing & Everything. You know what, I'll stick my neck out and say I prefer the latter three.

Definitely the first three of those for me, those ones from here are all really good though.

I liked the Pitchfork comment where that said Eitzel on this album could almost have been the 'outsider' member of the Rat Pack. I feel that. This album has a unique appeal I dunno.

'Nothing and Everything' is a showcase for Eitzel the songwriter, there's no vocal grandstanding.
'Singer & Ham' and 'Humphries' are showcases for Eitzel the singer/showman (the ham) so that's why I love them more. Dude's a beast, why not show it?
The latter are so much rarer in his recent back catalogue. All confidence baby.
