I just listen through Metal Talks: Opeth on Spotify and I have way more appreciation for this album now. These guys weren't even aware they were crafting a masterpiece at the time.

I don't have the individual CD of this - I have it in the Candlelight Years box set with Orchid and Morningrise. It's a pretty sweet package. What's the booklet for this like, though?

I have the Candlelight Years box set and individual CD because this album's worth it - the booklet contains some additional lyrics for the instrumentals, they're really good. I don't think it's ''that'' special otherwise, but there may be a more exquisite edition that I don't have.

"Best Opeth"

Can we all agree that there is more than one "best Opeth"?

Oh yeah, those lyrics are in the Candlelight Years booklet too. Looks like I'm not missing much lol

Morningrise is my favourite Opeth too but I can understand why some would prefer this.

Oh ok that's pretty sweet. The booklet for Anathema's A Natural Disaster does the same thing. Unifies the concept of the record in a cool way.

Yeah, I love the way this album segues its songs with the next song's title. Honestly, I'm surprised I didn't mention that in my write-up

I find those transitions kind of cheesy and contrived, honestly. It's a small part of why I prefer Morningrise.

This was my first concept album. Being one big story broken down into several songs that were all connected blew my mind. Also the lyrics on this are phenomenal, almost if they were lifted straight out of an Edgar Allen Poe story.
