Not gonna argue or debate over this, up to one´s taste as always. But fully agree with tokenmetalhead, this material is pretty predictable and monotonous. Also overall quality could be better. I´ve been with them since Eternity 1996, so as a long-time fan I´m kind of disappointed.
Full stop.

Really? I think the drum and bass tone is clearly the best they have ever done. Lee Douglas has never sounded better. I am of the opinion that I don't care if a band uses the same formula over and over as long as it's executed well. This is.

I agree with Teamster, they have made incredible stuff in this album.

This doesn't even use the same formula over and over, though. Not sure where people are getting that idea.
This is Anathema's most original work in years and it rules.

"This is Anathema's most original work in years and it rules."
I've only listened to this a few times, but it feels more like an album of sketches than fleshed out songs.

Endless Ways is one of my favourite songs this year. Just saw live footage from a show in Moscow and they NAIL it on stage.

OoN - I get a Distant Satellites vibe from this - the electronica especially - and the ballads with Lee Douglas. But there are some unique songs too.

It kiinda feels like a merging of A Fine Day to Exit with Distant Satellites' last third ... Wildfires can't really be counted into that though, it's certainly very different.
Endless Ways is amazing, probably my song of the year as of now. The drums are sounding like a lot of fun

I think it's more how it behaves as an album that's different rather than any major sonic differences.
'Weather Systems' I've listened to the first half of the album ten times as much as the second half. Similar deal with 'Distant Satellites', sometimes I finish my listen at 'Anathema'.
This album flows better, there are peaks throughout the tracklist, it conjures a unique overall atmosphere.
Wildfires is one of the best tunes on this.

I'm surprised people aren't generally loving this one. It's a huge improvement over DS.

This shit has me hooked. Leaving it Behind is so fucking good and the title track as well

Not a huge improvement over it at all, just different and good in its own way.

I found that one pretty boring but this is like what the band does best.

I haven't absorbed it nearly enough, but I'd say its much more interesting than the last two at this point.

WS has some of the band's best moments, mostly in the first half, so I can't say this is better but overall it's more refreshing than the last two yea

I can kind of see where that's coming from, but is it entirely a bad thing? I sort of like the more fragmentary nature of some of the songs here.

thing I dislike most about this is the transition from Leaving It Behind to Endless Ways, it's so abrupt and jarring and not even in a thematic way
overall I slightly prefer Distant Satellites to this (the only other Anathema I've heard, and yes, I'll change that soon), but this is still easily one of the better things I've heard yet this year and it'll probably be in my 2017 First Half Top 10 in a couple weeks

Yes, that transition bothers me, too.
I also prefer Distant Satellites and this is far from their best albums, but it's still great, the song-writing is very mature and I like the atmosphere in basically all of the songs, even though the individual atmospheres don't really mash up that well imo
