I hear it in the drums mostly, as well as the skeletal guitar lines.

That said I'm also not exactly an expert on that genre but I can see why people are throwing the term around with this.

to me it seems like this just fits in the same vein as the ubiquitous 2010s-indie-dream pop style

the problem with this style is that i feel like it can never capture my interest for an entire album. it's usually pleasant enough but there's only so much territory to explore within the subgenre

also wow the lyrics are bad

The lyrics are perfect for the mood of the album, it's an adolescent sex album and the lyrics match that.

Beach House never sounded this sexual to me but I do hear the musical similarities. All I'll say is this is more consistent quality wise than any Beach House album.

Guess this is an album you either love the atmosphere or you don't.

i do like the atmosphere, but i just feel like it can't carry itself for an entire album when this style is based on very simple arrangements

That is the popular opinion but I find it refreshing that the whole album just hits this perfect sustained note and keeps the melodies and arrangements simple/to the point.

There's just enough variety for me, but I am quite boring :D

Flash, John Wayne and Truly are truly amazing. Songwriting is top-notch on this record.
