If the new Ulver isn't pop then the new Depeche Mode isn't pop...and so if that's the case then old Depeche Mode isn't pop...and then you'd ask if something like Tears for Fears is pop...and then you realise nothing is pop except that one Madonna album

Yeah.
I'd probably like this more if she didn't have such an annoying voice

"the piano ballads drag"
this I couldn't disagree with more - 'Liability' and 'Writer In The Dark' might be the two best songs she's written
|

Writer in the dark is absolutely gorgeous. One of the only memorable songs here

yeah i can't stand the voice too. The lyrics are not very deep either. Can't see how people interpret so much into it. I can't relate to this at all.

"one of the only memorable songs here "
someone wasn't paying attention

Her singing voice can be beautiful, especially at the end of writer in the dark, but she has these super annoying tendencies where it's like she's talking more so than singing

liability is such a whiney song. holy shite

wtf guys. Not once did I interpret any part of this as whiney (aside from maybe the subject matter, which revolves around breakups)
|

I troll 4 days.
I stand by some points though. Her voice really does grate on me at times. Wouldn't call it whiny at all tho

She has like a 30% whine quotient

I can compromise at that. Every singer has at least a tiny whine quotient and she's not necessarily above average in that regard (but compared to most mainstream pop singers, she is).

re: perfect places, she's way overt with trying to capture the cultural zeitgeist with that "all of our heroes fading" line but I love that she had the confidence to go there. nothing better than pop music that marries the deeply internal with the universal and she nails that here. couldn't have dreamt up a better closer for this album
