Maybe a 4? There's still keyboard notes here and there and the percussion doesn't suffer much. This album basically sounds like Simple Math with less catchy choruses but more cohesive and smooth/effortless songwriting.

I love his backing vocals. I think they can maintain a similar style with the keyboards, I just really loved that guy. Always thought he was a... KEY... member in the band. Sorry, I'll see myself out.

I don't want to diminish his contributions or anything, but I'm just saying I didn't notice his absence on the new record. Here's the statement either way.

One more question and I'll stop picking your privileged brain; On a scale of 1-10 how much does this sound like Swiss Army Man OST?
The influence seems apparent to me based on the singles, but they also did similar stuff with HOPE.

I haven't heard Swiss Army Man :-(
I actually streamed a few tracks for the first time today (inspired by Rowan's allusion to it in this review) so that might change soon.

Yeah, I've only heard it a couple times. They share similar vocal textures from what I can tell. Not saying it's bad.

Streaming some samples and I can hear some overlap in technique, but it's hard to say without actually listening to it - Rowan could probably answer that better than me.

'Cope' didn't really do much for me but I adore 'Hope'. I fall asleep listening to that album more often than not.
Taxt. I'm yet to hear this album but if you were going to do a MO deep dive I personally would recommend starting with 'Mean Everything To Nothing'.

Yeah Taxt Mean Everything to Nothing and Simple Math are your best starting points for sure
dbizz, I think that you can hear the influence of Swiss Army Man in the way they've broadened themselves on this album, it clearly got them thinking about music in a different way and they threw out the rulebook with this one. It doesn't necessarily sound a lot like the soundtrack except for maybe the Maze, though.
Really really sorry to hear about the child situation, sowing. I can't imagine how that would feel but I know this album would be an especially brutal listen at points with that context around it. much love

I'll listen to this once it's streaming. These scores interest me, as I didn't care for their last two records. Hopefully this is a return to form.

Geez, that average
It'll probably end up around the 4 mark though

sowing - just heard moth and it's gorgeous. that chorus is heavenly
wasn't expecting this at all. i love the atmosphere they're going for here. if the rest of this is as good as the 3 singles it'll be an aoty contender.
