Loved Wines' mumblecore tag. Like a hungovered roommate telling u how to fix the world.

This is going to be a grower and a half I'm thinking

i usually hate his albums for 1 day, love them for 3 days, and then i never listen to them ever again. “War on Drugs: Suck My Cock” still great but.

I wish this dude would release something of digestible length to prompt me to finally give his work a proper try.

He has many "standard" length albums. They're all amazing in their own ways. My personal recommendation is Admiral Fell Promises though Ghosts is probs his most accessible.

yeah he didn't really go crazy with the lengths until recently

I guess what I mean is that his discog is so massive that it would be easier to just jump in with one of his newer releases but the lengths have prevented me from doing that (fully, I did listen to the first disc of Common As Light and Love...)

definitely don't start with late-career kozelek. best entry point is either ghosts or the red house painters s/t

[2] ghosts for more folk/rock/americana, rhp for more slowcore/shoegaze/atmosphere

Yeah I’ve been meaning to check Ghosts for ages...as I said though a new release would help prompt me to make the effort.

if it makes it any more enticing ghosts has been my favorite discovery of the last three years

Remember when this guy used to write engaging music that revolved around actual melodies instead of the same 1 or 2 notes over and over, and he had actual lyrics instead of self indulgent stream-of-consciousness nonsense?

Nah, he's got it spot on - the purely melodic 'pretty' stuff had been perfected on 'Admiral Fell'...and even he found the result a bit dull.

He went on and recorded 'Benji' - his best ever album. He's pulled a career blinder imo

Lol so his melodies were dull (bs) so he did away with them so he could ramble like a senile old man? Guy's turned into such a douche tbh. He should just host a podcast because this barely qualifies as music

“this barely qualifies as music”
you’re free to dislike but enough with this inane argument
