With you writing as good as this is Sowing I’m worried how scary great #350 will be

Thanks Nocte :-)
I never got into IFWWW to the same extent I enjoy this, although I'll admit that record was far more immediate.

Just listened to this...I hope people saying it’s a grower are right because I found it incredibly boring. Only A Boat To An Island Part 2 stood out at all.
|
| |
I'm doubtful of people who call it a grower, it's a record that relies mostly on atmosphere: either that grabs you or it doesn't.

Alas, then maybe it won’t work for me. These days I need more than just prettiness and atmosphere.

It was a grower for me. First listen was about a 3.5 but each time I enjoyed the natural symbolism and subtle guitar work a little more. But yeah, if you genuinely disliked this on first listen, then there probably isn't much point in trying to ram it down your own throat.

I think it's an album of subtle melody, subtle lightweight little flourishes deep in the mix and subtle rewards in general.
So it's more a personality thing and how you are as a listener to whether it grabs you at all, and if so how quickly.
it helps if you've listened to something like 'World of Echo' or a similarly ambient folk-ish album...cos then this comes across as a pop album!

Sowing this was a 2-2.5 on first listen so let’s hope I can get it up to a 3-3.5.
Doof I’m all for subtlety but I caught not a single interesting melody on the first go.

Boney I'd say this album has quite slippery song writing and is definitely not just surface level beauty
This isn't another S.Carey (as puuuurdy as that one was, that was a 'let it wash other' easy listen)

Ah see, I was about to make an S. Carey comparison - that got the balance of atmosphere and songwriting a bit better I’d say but it’s early days with this I guess.

100% agree with the fact that every melody, flourish, etc is subtle. It's definitely not something meant to stand out...but I appreciate the stillness this record brings in the midst of everyday chaos.

yeeh boney there are plenty of vocal nooks and crannies which end up growing on ya the more you listen to it m/

Also Boney you may enjoy it less if you try too hard to like it, sort of like anything. It's cool if this clicks all of a sudden, but it's equally as cool if it's not at all your cup of tea. I was actually surprised how much I dug this because usually I need a little bit more going on methodically to keep me invested in repeated listens.

We’ll see... I don’t mean to be a negative voice, I’m glad you’re all enjoying it and hope I can too ❤️

This is definitely for me one of the best albums of the year so far, just amazing from start to finish. The Defeat is a sure highlight. Ben Howard is also an absolute beast on guitar too.

the last two minutes of 'Someone in the Doorway' is absolute perfection

Agreed. That and the ending to Murmurations are two of my favorite moments here.

I always liked Howard, but this one takes it to a whole other level.
