When it comes to subtle arrangements, strings and introspective noodling I’d take this over almost everything else released in the last few years.

Funny that everyone brought up S. Carey, I was just thinking if Hundred Acres is the wind blowing across leaves ,grass and streams, then this is heat waves rising off of rocks and earth . . . It is beautiful.

Everyone, read about it
Everyone, scream about it
Everyone (everyone, yeah)
Everyone (everyone) read about it, read about it
Read it in the books, in the crannies and the nooks, there are books to read
(Sowing the seeds) Sowing the seeds of love, we're sowing the seeds,
Sowing the seeds
Sowing the seeds of love, sowing the seeds
Sowing the seeds of love
Sowing the seeds of love
Mister England sowing the seeds of love
Time to eat all your words
Swallow your pride
Open your eyes

I can't be the only one let down by this surely? Loved his last one but not feeling this at all, I get that it's meant to be more of an atmospheric album than an anthem-driven one but there's no part of this that stands out to me at all, it all just felt very middling?
That said his last one did take a long time to grow on me so this could be the same

Love it, Ben has just gone from strength to strength

the vinyl bonus track "Bird on a Wing" is honestly my favourite song from these sessions, and maybe one of Ben's best overall. can't believe he shafted it for the tracklist

ooouuu a bonus track (fuck Im gonna have to get this on vinyl, my poor bank account)
I love how the album takes almost a sinister turn after the interlude into The Defeat. Then the last track though, Murmurations, starts off with that sinister vibe but Ben manages to manipulate the song into sounding quite optimistic by the end, without any drastic changes in tone. Love it.

Really? What have I been missing, only really great folk album I’ve heard is Haley Heynderickx.

So much good shit in that genre: Ilyas Ahmed, Damien Jurado, Rosehall, Mark Kozelek, Juliana Daugherty, Johanna Warren, Mount Eerie, S. Carey etc.

Well Boney, dunno how much of these you'd dig but what I enjoyed so far:
Tango with Lions, First Aid Kit, Brigid Mae Power, Johanna Warren, Loma (half electronic, half folk), Darlingside, S. Carey, Kacey Musgraves, Malena Zavala, Sangre de Muerdago, Jennifer Castle, Modern Studies, Aisha Burns... and some other I can't remember.

I like the soundscapes he creates and the darker side of his music, but the songs themselves, i'm not feeling enough. I've enjoyed his first 2 albums, I'll give it some more listens though.

Initially I thought I knew what my big 3 were from this album (Nica Libres at Dusk, A Boat to an Island on the Wall, Murmurations), but I'll be damned if Towing the Line isn't just as gorgeous in its own way.
