This fared better on a second listen, will take a bit more time but I can see it unfolding into something special.

I wouldn't compare the two. That one is all foregrounded atmosphere and widescreen effects, this relies on subtle progression to pull you in.

I would say this was more ambient rural space rock

I get such a beautiful vibe from it. I feel like he's vanishing into an ocean sunset while singing.

This is def. his most "I don't give a flying fuck anymore" record.

he's using a different band for this record too. His previous band wanted to return to the more folky styles of EK from what I've read, and he just said nahhhh and brought in a new band, the same band he worked with on A Blaze of Feathers.

Is his other stuff good too?

Yeah. His other stuff is more pop-inclined though, think typical singer-songwriter with a guitar made-for-dramatic-movie scenes...but the cream of the crop. This album feels like art, though.

"I Forget Where We Were" is still, in my opinion, his best record. "Every Kingdom" was a superb debut too, but his style was more... orthodox?

There is also an EP called "Burgh Island" that is just unbelievably good.

If you've ever heard his Burgh Island EP, this is very similar stylistically.
