Damn I haven't stopped listening to this in the week since I've heard it. I just keep coming back every time I have a spare 30 minutes or so. Biggest grower for me since Sleep Well Beast, which I also found boring at first but then turned into a classic.

That's the power of this man, right there. It was a huge influence for me two years ago and inspired me to make my own music. The guy is on another league.

I guess I've got to check this then!

I wish all this praise had happened for IFWWW instead, I'm starting to feel this album is getting a tiny bit overrated

That album still has a higher avg tho?

I've listened to his discography, EP's included, and to me this is a clear cut above anything else he's done. It's a noticeable maturation and creatively/atmospherically superior.

Oh I didn't know the avg tbh, I think it's a combo of it feels like this album is getting more attention and it's unfortunately grown off of me a bit, I think some of the stuff here is kinda corny and boring

Lol I feel the exact opposite, like his stuff prior to this was pandering (only slightly) to his mainstream audiences while this just goes for it all, artistically speaking, in such a way that sacrifices a lot of the harmonizing that made his stuff easy to get into. At the same time, this packs way more depth.

You think I'd dig this Sowing?

I dunno Towing The Line absolutely panders imo (tho I still love it so much)
I totally get this is more conceptually and musically daring but it feels a lot like this album is very easy to respect but hard to love

Hard to say. I forget where your folk/indie rock tendencies lie. I'd guess that you will enjoy this but not adore it, perhaps a 3.5-4. It's an absolute textbook definition grower though; so the time you put into it dictates what you'll get out of it. Started as a soft 3.5 for me and made it this far in a little over a week. Every day I had to listen "just one more time." If it hooks you in the same way, then I'd venture into the 4.5 range for ya.

@Freddie: I get that take because that's how I saw it at first. Maybe I'm just listening to it too much (twice a day for well over a week), but I now find it as interesting and melodically pleasing as I do "respectable."

Oh I adore folk/indie rock so I'm hoping for at least a 4, hopefully the same happens for me!

He got a hell of a drummer for this one, damn. The Defeat is amazing.

It's not IFWWW territory for me yet, but this is still amazing. Hopefully it will grow on me like IFWWW did.

Album has made go full on sowing so I’ll state this indulgence.
The fragility and nuance of this masterpiece has grabbed my soul like a new borns first grasp, reaching from the cotton shawl to the mother.
The record brings to mind mellifluousness evocative of a past age where an albums inital listen blooms into a indelible part of ones being and becomes essential as a first awakening breath.
Listened to it for a week.

Listened to it in the car this morning and it made water in my eyes

Which tracks are we talking about Zak? I get soft with Nica Libres and the end guitar of The Boat Pt.1.
