year zero consistently has Trent’s instrumentals and most forgettable hooks hoping it’ll grow on repeated listens

With Teeth was hit or miss for me. I felt like it was his first “dud.” As much as I love The Hand That Feeds, Everyday Is Exactly the Same, and Right Where It Belongs

Mostly good songs, just my less favorite cuts from the album. Maybe I would place Beside You In Time way up there too c: I didn’t care for Sunspots and Love Is Not Enough personally.

With Teeth has aged well. People are starting to come around to it more often than usual. I didn't have a problem with it. For a mainstream NIN record, it was A LOT better than anyone expected. As far as Bad Witch goes, what prevents me from rating this in the 4's is how forgettable this album is. It's barely an LP and doesn't take any creative leaps the Nails haven't done before. 3.5/5 is roughly a 7/10. That's still pretty good in my opinion. The record doesn't have the impact it needs to make it standout. Although it has a great story, the album isn't as subversive or open as it should be. Especially with albums like The Fragile and Downward Spiral that pick apart the subject to expose it for what it is, this album doesn't delve deep into the beliefs of Reznor aside from face value. It's reclusive and distorted where it should be clear and honest.

I don't get why people have this divide between pre and post Fragile NIN, I don't really see the drop in quality.

If got less angry/angsty and therefore mellowed out, that's the only real change I see

Maybe it's because I find The Fragile really hit or miss?

Technically if you include "Suck" and "Physical (You're So)" Broken is longer than Bad Witch, and has more tracks, but is considered an EP

maybe that's why?

sure, but length isn't what defines an album from an EP? it's cohesion and artistic intent. or are Pink Moon by Nick Drake, Weezer's Green Album, like every Beach Boys album before Pet Sounds all EPs now lol

I've got all of their albums with 4's and 5's, so yeah, I get the feeling. I enjoy them all, and I enjoyed this immensely. It's way deeper and intricate than a lot of people think.

I don't understand, shouldn't it be "ones" in the summary ?

EP and LP don't really matter. Either way it's music, but distributed differently. I thought it was an interesting shift considering Bad Witch was intended to be an EP. Hesitation Marks was fine, but I have different expectations when it comes to Nine Inch Nails LP's. They're usually in-depth and subversive while EP's tease a certain concept. Casual audiences expect LP's to be of a more traditional length. This clocks around 30 minutes where standard LP's go into the 45-50 minute range. It may seem underwhelming commercially, but there isn't much of an issue. I just feel the record could have defined itself more than what was shown.
