I re-listened to Year Zero today and honestly that album still blows me away more than any other NIN album ever could

This is much better than Year Zero I think. I didn't dig that one all that much really.

This is the first thing I've truly enjoyed from Reznor since Fragile.

Rowbro, I'm a fan of your writing and I'm obvs in no position to give criticism, but this review seems like a bunch of unrelated statements stapled together into paragraph form

The atmosphere this establishes is overwhelming. I can't help but feel like I am in this dark, dystopian, technological future when I listen to it, similar to how I felt in other NIN records from a decade before+. All these EPs have had the soundtrack sound in tow, but I think this one makes it feel more like an artist's "song" than a film's score.

This is artistic integrity at it's best.

This album will take time to grow on me. I like the album, but not nearly as much as most of you do. I wasn't expecting that, especially after Eat the Elephant. I guess I'll wait and see.

I had a thesis statement in the first draft which kind of tied things together. I deleted it cos it was clunky and kind of self-indulgent, and I thought this would be a good album for which to try a shorter, simplistic type of writing. fair critique though

why is Eat the Elephant even getting mentioned in here, though? yes, Reznor and Keenan worked together once like a decade ago, so what?

Much like Elephant, this seems like a grower.

I don't get that comparison at all either.

Anyway, this is shaping up to be one of my top albums this year which is sort of a testament to this LP's strength, but also to how weak a year it's been in indie-rock/folk for me.

Well, if you peek at my review, you'll get the full scope of my mindset with Bad Witch. What I'm trying to say is this album will take time to grow on me. Eat the Elephant was an album I didn't expect to like, yet I ended up loving it. Bad Witch is an album I expected to like, yet I didn't love it on the level of most of you. I see where the acclaim comes from, but to me, it feels like something familiar to the Nine Inch Nails. They've done dark and moody before. I don't understand why it's getting acclaim for it. It's creative, but is it really *that* important? It'll easily be in my top records of the year nonetheless. I'm just indifferent towards it.

Great for what it is, I wish it had just a couple more tracks to round it out. Almost an amazing album, but the long instrumentals kinda makes it drag on the second half. Would be fine if there was more content to justify it.

3.5? If it were an EP I'd give it a 4. Can't help but feel there's so much wasted potential here,.

This sounds exactly like I expected after God Break Down The Door. It's alright...but its a bit lost to its experimentation. Comes off a bit improvised but without much ...pay off songs. Best song has to be the God Break Down The Door.

I don't think the album has any 'bad songs' per-se. They're all generally good.
