Yeah the avg is disappointing. This is pretty equal to her first two if not better. Time tells that cuz this one needed a bit

Exactly. I will be the first to admit that I thought this was no better than a 3 first go-around, but it's an album that needs to sink in. The lyrics are beautiful too which most people can't truly absorb initially. I wish more people would listen to this a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time, but not everyone loves Florence as much as I do so I "get" why it's not worth the effort to many. Just results in a slightly lower average than what I feel it truly deserves, but it's not a huge deal. As long as people vote it to the year end list :-)

Yeah I was ready to hit this with a 3 at first but now it's in my top 10 and could easily land in my top 5 by year's end. Still floored by The End of Love, but Grace and Sky Full of Song are also excellent, and the end of Patricia is just lovely. But then again I've always loved Florence ballads.
I still desperately want the substance and maturity of this album to fuse with the manic energy of her older work, though. Just give me one or two big ol' Shake It Out-tier bangers that still tell stories like this.

Finally giving this a listen. In the middle of my first listen through, and I think this is sitting at a 4. I could see this growing to a 4.5 for me maybe.

Yeah a 5 for me is a 4.5 for most. I'm just glad there is a pocket of users who see this for the brilliant release it is.

Just wrapping up my first listen, yeah I think this is an inevitable 4.5 for me. Some seriously beautiful stuff here.

There's at least one moment from every song that I can say amazes me (I made a list about it lol). It took some time but it tops Ceremonials for me. Her most even-keeled and humbly quiet work is her crowning achievement to date; who would have guessed?

Decent stuff. I don't think I'll listen to it anytime soon though like I don't have any criticisms per se it just didn't strike me that much

This is, so far, on par with her last effort for me. Always thought her first two albums were a bit much, nice to see her not feeling the need to blow up every song.

I jam her rendition of Stand By Me regularly. Gives me the chills every time

I'm too attached to Ceremonials to say this is better but the more I listen the better it gets.

yeah it's a grower man
for me this barely tops Ceremonials

i haven't given this album a ton of listens but each one has definitely brought something new to my attention and helped me to appreciate some factor of it more.
i planned to proper revisit florence's discography before this album came out but i only got around to doing lungs and most of ceremonials which both still very much hold up. i think ceremonials is still my favorite but i've never given how big, how blue, how beautiful a proper focused listen so who knows, that may change. "queen of peace" is amazing, i know that at least.
also "hunger", "big god", and now "patricia" on this thing my goodness they're hitting my florence upper echelon very quickly.

yeah this is her best album yet but everyone gave it a 3 because "where da big beats?"

confession: I've never listened to the first two Florence albums in full, so my desire for da big beats is straight up hypocritical.
also there needs to be more hype for The End of Love

such a breathtaking track
I still prefer No Choir though in terms of quiet, honest beauty

Oh, this is a fast grower, alright. I half-forget how affecting her voice can be.

I just love the way each song takes introspective lyrics and swells them to biblical proportions; especially in such an organic and unforced way. A thing of beauty for real.

This is a great album but I still think Big God is so damn awful and sounds like an embarrassing parody of an older Flo jam

Haha damn. It struck me as a tad cringey on my first listen but then that orchestrated midsection kicked in and I was sold.
