"With a nine-minute portrait of depression rounding out the trilogy, like being subsumed in black liquid which wants to hug you for eternity and also kill you, Nearer My God establishes itself as emo's first definitive document on digital-age despair."

"It's a first side that could rival Deathconsciousness for apocalyptic bleakness."

The last minute or so of Won’t Drown when the instruments come back in might be my favorite moment on the whole album

"Paradise", "5 Cups", "Heartless" and "Won't Drown" are the only songs I really care for. And they're all very strong soty contenders, which makes me impulsively want to rate this higher. Not sure if the rest will grow or not. For now it seems homogeneous, a little duller - especially contrasted by the amazing songs I noted. I absolutely hate the title track. One of the most annoying hooks I've heard all year

the album is a bit too long for me tbh, that's what kinda prevents me from bumping this, still though you don't get too many albums like this anymore

To be fair I have their previous albums 4.5s and this was very highly anticipated by me. It’s not that I hate it to be annoying. I hate it because it sucks.

and yes Dealer is astronomically better than this.
