I think I'm just going to hold off until the album. Two singles is plenty.

Cool that they are touring with DGD although I will likely skip considering I have seen both at least twice each

It’s probably my favorite of the three singles

It is definitely the best of the 3 singles. I wanna be a bigger fan of these guys because they have such high highs, but there music as a whole is generally just 'good'. Excited for the new album regardless.

Well I caved and listened to Liar's Club. I think my singles ranking is...
"Shoulders"
"Cut the Cord"
"Liar's Club"
I'm hoping they have some darker tracks on the album but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

New single dropped and it's literally the same song as "Liar's Club". This album will probably be a 3.

Band ain't what they used to be, but I'm sure the current/new fans will enjoy it

I like this a lot better than Liar's Club tbh. This feels more akin to the pop songs on the Good Apollo albums and has more interesting things goin on than just power chords. This album rollout has been an absolute mess in terms of release dates and the types of songs they've released, but I'm hoping the album has some aces up their sleeves. Vaxis I didn't aim super high, but ended up being really solid. Hoping the deeper cuts are more ambitious

Song structure on the new track is underwhelmingly basic for a "prog" band, but the verses are pretty good all things considering. Rhythm section is nice too!

their song structures have always been fairly conventional. They have some songs that are definitely out there, but for the most part their prog tendencies come more from the content within than the structure

That's true, although I still feel like the poppier songs from Good Apollo 1 seem more interesting overall. I like how they change Ten Speed up towards the end, and that anthemic "listen well, will you marry me" hook in The Suffering, they work so well. Comatose is still a good song, but it's missing that creative spark.

Don't disagree with any of those points. Maybe I'm too kind to this band since I've loved them for so long at this point, but I'm perfectly happy if they keep turning out albums that don't blow me away but have a few songs that are worthy additions to their catalog. Vaxis I was a good blueprint for this level of quality, I think. They are getting old and it's kinda clear that Claudio has used up most, if not all, of his songwriting tricks. I would love to be surprised, but the writing seems to be on the wall that they are more of a legacy band at this point. Which is totally fine, Iron Maiden is basically that and they still put out great stuff.
The singles so far have been a little concerning in their uniformity and lack of ambition, but I have still liked them well enough and the actual album itself could still have some left hooks and surprises. The only time my faith in this band truly waivered was Color Before the Sun

With no disrespect to him or any family man, it feels like he's writing songs for his son to bop to. They're catchy, high-mid tempo, if perhaps a bit juvenile. Considering the last album's singles ("The Dark Sentencer", "Unheavenly Creatures", "The Gutter") I'm not holding my breath for this next release.

I do kind of agree with that. However, I do think that that Vaxis I's single choices were mediocre as well.
Dark Sentencer is honestly Welcome Home III, and hits almost the exact same notes as Domino the Destitute. It's a fun song, but it doesn't do a ton for me. Unheavenly Creatures is about the same level as what's been released from Vaxis II so far imo. The Gutter is an excellent track though and feels as ambitious as they were on their first few records. Old Flames was excellent, but also really just kind of another pop rock song not too unlike the Vaxis II stuff so far

My only real complaint with Vaxis 1 was that it lacked the 'punch' and energy that previous albums had... Which I feel like, from these singles anyway, Vaxis 2 has vastly improved upon. Had a few more listens to Comatose and it's really starting to grow on me. Feels like they're edging for a more mainstream sound, kinda reminiscent of the mid-to-late 2000's emo/pop-punk explosion of MCR, 30 Seconds To Mars, Fall Out Boy etc.
And you know what, I'm all for it!
