"hits almost the exact same notes as Domino the Destitute."

I think I've heard in some forums this is intentional because Claudio doesn't like playing DtD live so he wrote a similar song.

"Feels like they're edging for a more mainstream sound, kinda reminiscent of the mid-to-late 2000's emo/pop-punk explosion of MCR, 30 Seconds To Mars, Fall Out Boy etc."

I actually had this same thought this morning. Might be trying to reach radio to capitalize on the latest wave of pop-punk.

Yeah, Vaxis I's biggest issue was just that it was a lot of mid-tempo, unambitious stuff that was executed really, really well. I sound very negative on it, but I actually love that album a lot and it was the exact thing I wanted them to make after how worrying Color was lol

Expected Vaxis II to be more of the same, which is still like a 3.5-4

lol what? Why doesn't Claudio like Domino? Is it because he doesn't want to diss Mic?

Yeah I think the stuff with Mic really got to him. I don't know if it's not diss or not even talk about and that is all granted hearsay.

I think it's pretty obvious that song is about Mic, he's not exactly subtle when choosing the topics to write about considering GA vol. 1 lol There's the brotherhood, a robbery, helplessly watching someone succumb to their worst tendencies... Don't necessarily think it's a diss, but I could see it being too hard for him to even think about Mic, given everything that they've gone through and the bridge seeming completely burned

it's sad I don't even care enough to check my usual spots for the leak anymore. new single was so uninspired.

I have fond memories of afterman I leaking in like 64 kbps lol It was the worst sounding thing I've ever heard but I was so jacked to hear it. I'm gonna wait for the whole thing, maybe they'll put it up on streaming early. Delaying this thing a whole month just to coincide with the vinyl release seems silly

New album is going to be super divisive. The worst songs are where they try to be hard rock (Shoulders and Bad Man).

I'd say most of the songs are good but I don't like Claudio's singing in a lot of the verses. Sounds like he's in a range that doesn't work well with his voice. I get some Year of the Black Rainbow vibes from some songs too with a lot of Afterman elements.

Everything I say about this band comes from a place of love, even the criticism. I love these guys immensely but going off what you said about Claudio's singing...

Have any of you noticed how on Vaxis Claudio inhales INTO the mic on almost every song. Like it's a weird character/voicing thing but it's... obnoxious. The most egregious offenders are songs like "All on Fire".

The final 3 songs on Vaxis II kick ass and are the best on the album with Comatose. Vaxis II is probably their best since Ascension but take it from someone that thinks everything from Descension to Vaxis I ranges from dogshit to okay.

Regarding the breathing into the mic on Vaxis I, I never really noticed it but I've also listened to this album fewer than 10 times because it doesn't haven't much sticking power for me.

I really like Shoulders. But yeah, this is going to be even more divisive than The Color Before The Sun lol

huh, that is interesting. I have no idea what to make of your Vaxis II notes but it makes me excited for the album. Are there any epics/prog stuff?

Two particular songs I would say are the closest things to The Willing Well's that they've done since. I just wish they could make an entire album of that, because I know they can. Don't get me wrong I really like the album, but it does feel a bit weird for Coheed. I can't explain it...

took a glance at r/thefence and it seems that people keep saying how weird it is. I would not have gotten that sense at all from the singles lol

Did they do a bad job of choosing them?

I'm not a fan of Coheed's Octane-core songs (I abhor The Hard Sell) and I don't like the '80s stuff much either (think The Pavilion).

I absolutely love The Disappearing Act though and I think a lot of older fans are going to hate it. I think Sput is gonna be a big fan of Vaxis II.

I think Comatose and Naianasha are in line with most of the album. Shoulders is an outlier for sure and The Liars Club kind of falls in the middle but it's a fun song.

Ladders of Supremacy is the closest thing to a traditional Coheed epic but it's still pretty different.

There aren't too many soaring choruses but I think it works in the albums favor. It feels cohesive.

It's more the structure of the album, and overall feel which I'd say is weird. I don't want to spoil anything, but it seems like they've broke the formula a bit more with this. There's a lot of stuff which you expect from a Coheed album which is absent here, but also a lot more surprises too. It will throw most fans off on the first listen that's for sure! But it's nice to hear something a little more different from these guys.

The pacing is pretty relentless though, it's the polar opposite to Vaxis 1 in that regard.

It's far from their best album but the change is welcome. Coheed's felt a little stale for the last 3 releases.

Can't stress how much I'm getting love child of Year of the Black Rainbow and Ascension vibes. Album structure even feels like those two if you remove them opening with an epic.
