Well this thread has gone to shit...

Either way, this album feels like an amalgamation of their previous efforts.... Even if it often sounds like LF//LT pt 3, tracks like Seven Circle sure remind me of Hollow Crown (specially the tuning) where A Wasted Hymm gives me some TH&N vibes.

I like this album, but not the album of the year.

I feel the comments of "this all sounds the same" or "this is the just the same record they've always put out", were opinions that were formed and committed to even before the album came out. An example is obvious contrast between a song like The Seventh Circle and A Wasted Hymn. They clearly sound very different in numerous ways. Seventh Circle is crushingly heavy and sounds more like a Decapitated track than traditional Architects. The new aspects of symphonic, electronic, and song writing, and production, go to show that Architects are still pushing their sound forward.

they definitely incorporate new elements in their music for sure, but from an overall songwriting standpoint there isn't really anything too out of the ordinary imo.

Sooo this was my first time listening to Architects, believe it or not. Thought they were just another djent band all this time, they're something entirely different. It's concise, well-played and easy to listen to, but those screamed high vocals can get a bit taxing after some time. Still, it's rather good IMO

Memento Mori > A Wasted Hymn, so people can stop talking about that track like it's anything special. The stand out tracks are: Holy Hell, Mortal After All, Doomsday, Seventh Circle, and Hereafter. Everything else is just okay and below average for them.

Also AOGHAU and LF//LT are more unconventional structurally, the only song here with less than three choruses is Doomsday

i mean memento mori is hard to beat but that doesn't make wasted hymn a bad song

Each of their past few records has only pushed forward in the absolute tiniest of ways, which is fine, but it grows tiring.

A Wasted Hymn is one of the highlights on this album, actually.

I'm not saying Architects are some how bending the genre or anything, but I am saying they are still developing their sound like a lot of us have just agreed on. My point is more about listeners wanting to dismiss the band before they've actually digested the album.

For arguments sake, there also exists a double standard where it's cool when some specific bands churn out the same record and not others. The Black Dahlia Murder is a well loved band that I also love, but they are definitely guilty of having the same sound for the past seven records.

The problem with bands like TBDM or ETID don't really need to change the formula up too much because they're churning out great album after great album. Problem is Architects have been doing the same old boring/generic metalcore for the past 5 albums now.

4* albums.

Don't lump TH&N in with this garbage.
