This is actually a really respectable review. You noted its purpose and handed it the praise it deserves while admitting it's not for you personally which is something I can fully get behind. Have a massive pos, friend.

I vibe with this perspective hard. Amazing piece of work, they nail the atmosphere they're going for, I just don't get a massive amount of enjoyment from listening to it. same goes for my views on some of Swans recent stuff, very happy that it exists and it nails what it seeks to achieve but eh i don't actually want to listen to it all that much

Pos'd, I think it's a very valid POV and I'm kinda surprised as many people like this album as they do. I think if I heard it even 3 years ago, I wouldn't have loved it.

I still don't think I would have liked this if I hadn't listened to Swans' The Seer from several years back. That album really changed my perspective on what music could be and even though I still think it's too bloated to get back into and really enjoy, this album is everything I wanted that album to be.

Yeah I can get this sort of feeling on the album. I have a friend who feels the same way.

I love this album to death and its great too see that Daughters still have it in them to push their sound further.

This definitely seems like a grower album if you liked it at first, I just haven't felt the need to revisit.

"it's funny, i'd argue that my main issue with this is that it DOESN'T make me feel anxiety, depression or any of those feelings."

i would agree with this minus the first song, which is definitely very dark and anxiety-inducing. been feeling very depressed lately and when i had it come on shuffle the other day i immediately changed it.

I agree with Bloon’s criticisms, plus the review completely skips over the album’s midsection of “Less Sex” and “Daughter”, which bring the mood way down and offers some breathing room. Not to mention that’s where the consonant melodies the author has been craving are actually featured (a dissonant melody is still a melody).

Good review man although I respectfully disagree. I can see people’s gripe with this album though admittedly. Especially those who can’t appreciate noise.

Imagine thinking this album is too much, lol, even worse, imagine giving an album you consider a masterpiece a 2.0 just because it's too much for you. This review reminds me of the 1.0 reviews for Things Viral and The Marble Index, it's like a combination of both.
Also:
"there is very little melody to be had here"
???
"The guitars are exceptionally dissonant"
I know noise rock isn't mainstream, but isn't White Light/White Heat a popular album in music sites? Or at least kind of popular? I doubt someone who has listened to that album would call the guitars here "exceptionally dissonant".
"the vocals are spoken word telling and ranting that have nothing to do with singing"
Except he's singing.
"and the drums are repetitive"
Correct. So is most of the album though.
"and uncomfortable".
Because they're repetitive.

Are you really arguing that The Velvet Underground’s level of dissonant melodies on White Light/White Heat is comparable to Daughters?

Can you imagine if this album was dropped in 1968 lol

Is it really "exceptionally" dissonant though? That's the part I disagree with, "exceptionally". But yeah, every track on White Light/White Heat (except for Here She Comes Now, of course) is at least as dissonant as this, and there's a bunch of albums more dissonant than both combined.

This is still miles better than most negative reviews of well-received releases, to be fair.

Have ANY of the fuckers that negged this seen this one? https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/51182/La-Dispute-Somewhere-at-the-Bottom-of-the-River-Between-Vega-and-Altair-/

This isnt the most dissonant thing in the world but it still is pretty heavily dissonant.

Daughters is no Jute Gyte but I don’t think The Velvet Underground utilizes dissonance to the same capacity as Daughters does on this album at all, like yea they have it but it’s rarely the focus of the song compared to tracks like The Flammable Man or Guest House where it’s absolutely relentless. They’re just not even comparable, their goals are completely different and the albums were released 50 years apart

“and there's a bunch of albums more dissonant than both combined.”

That’s true but this isn’t exactly easy to listen to for the average person if the review is any indication

If were gonna compare older bands to this album I think This Heat, Swans, The Birthday Party, Chrome, Throbbing Gristle, or Suicide would make a whole lot more sense than The fucking Velvet Underground lol.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying this is similar to The Velvet Undergroud except for both being dissonant and noisy, don't get the wrong idea. Also, yeah, I forgot Swans were popular too, has the reviewer never listened to them? Whatever, I just would expect someone making a review to have a bit more knowledge about this stuff.
