On that note it's kind of the biggest aspect of this review that I disagree with - it talks about Steven being hopeful and tranquil for once where i see a lot more grim parody and mania

Yeah I got the irony in the George Clinton track but his vocal performance is pretty terrible and just is grating to me to the point where I'm not sure the irony alone is worth relistening to it

I don't really have a desire to listen to that track and one or two others on here again. Nothing to do with an ignorance about Parliament or funk in general. I've listened to plenty since I was a youngin

he was on point vocally and conveyed the album's theme well on that track.

for real what is the album's theme? like outside of vague references to fire I see nothing tying this together in any meaningful way especially in comparison to the gorgeously rendered conceptual journeys of Cosmo, UTQD and You're Dead.

This is shaping up to be one of my lesser favorites of his, but Heroes is 200% my favorite FlyLo album opener. Wow that sets the scene.

"like outside of vague references to fire"

lol vague?! have u even heard the album?

album is about death and rebirth illustrated through a parable about a world where a revered eternal flame/harbinger of the apocalypse chills on a hill and eventually engulfs the world, and the aftermath.

after the themes explored in cosmo through you're dead (and kuso) i'm really not sure how you could ask for anything more explicit

Nice review. Well thought out.

I think the album is damn near perfect, but I can understand people being hung up by certain sections.

^ W0t! No judgement though. This seems like a mixed opinion album; Everyone's hating on the first 11 tracks but those are the ones I've been enjoying most besides The Climb & Black Balloons

Yes... The Climb, my man. I've been jamming the hell out of that song. Something about it.

The Climb is wonderful yea. Also Heroes is one of his best openers.

More and Takashi are growing on me after I used to think they were inferior tracks. This is such a dense listen, not sure it's likely to be able to form a concrete opinion until you've listened at least like 5 times.

Yea, this isn't a 'hear it once and rate it' kind of album.

ive honestly never felt that flylo has been especially strong at closers but I love Hot Oct in that regard, the extended ambience is perfect

The Climb is beautiful. An awesome contrast to The Descent. It's feel-good funk, but it's got the lightest coating of that gross underbelly FlyLo has integrated into his music the past couple albums.

I listened to this again while cooking and change my mind on a lot. This is one of his better albums, for me it just kinda lulls a bit near the end. But so did YD! to me. Y'all are right on waiting to rate this. I gotta give this another listen (my 4th/5th) before I settle on the usual FlyLo 4.0
