This is frustrating, because it's almost great... I like every song here, some more than others, but after their stellar trilogy in the 2010s, it simply feels underwhelming. Hopefully it's a grower. EDIT: it did grow to a 4 after a few more listens, yay!

In 2014 Westberg joined with Mark Shippy (U.S. Maple), Jim Sykes (Invisible Things), Matthew Wascovich (Scarcity Of Tanks), and Mike Watt (Minutemen) to form the art rock project band Hidden Rifles. Their debut album, Across The Neighborhoods, was released in October 2017.

The album is pretty atmospheric and I enjoy it quite a lot. Btw on the acoustic tour, Gira played 4 songs from the new album "The bagger". It is hard to tell how they will sound in studio, since this was just solo Gira.

this would be way more valid if more of it sounded like the title track

The title track on this is something special, really great to drift away on that one but I have been a longtime fan of The Necks and its fitting that they are featured

New album is a very solid 3.5 that is largely bolstered by its monolithic "The Beggar Lover (Three)". They could've just released that behemoth as its own LP/EP/single/whatever and I'd probably give it a 4.5. Rest of the album ranges from good to quite good, but nothing else approaches the eminence of that forty-some minute banger. Very reminiscent of a reinvented/neo-SftB sound and leaves me wishing the rest of the album projected as such. Still fairly good/great overall, tho, and a hair better than LEAVING MEANING imo.

I haven't heard any songs from the new one yet and at this point I'll just keep it that way so I can experience the full album for the first time in two days
Swans have missed the mark IMO for years. Last album I cared about was To Be Kind, and even that one seemed super overrated to me. The Seer is absolutely incredible, so maybe my expectations for the band are just too high now.
