Still haven't got my hands on that yet, I heard Turner say it's one of his favorites the band's done

Says it’s an “excerpt” on the cover, wonder what’s up with that...

I consider ISIS and Botch to be all-time favourite bands, but this band is really boring. That's unfortunate.

I love this band to death but every single album has been adding more nonsensical noise and free jazz inspired structures and it is a shame. I have seen them live and they are absolutely crushing. I'm nobody but I wish they could trim the noise fat and concentrate on the heavy stuff with some atmospheric transitions. Great band and musicians anyway.

the ambient/noise/improv side of the band is something they need in order to feel like there's no limits to their sound. Turner at the very least is quite willing to leave projects in order to follow his whims haha. As much as I think What One Becomes is still their best album basically for the reason you've stated, I'm all in board for them doing what pleases them without constraint or pandering

I agree milo, dunno how many times I’ve rolled my eyes at people saying they wished Sumac sounded more like ISIS lol. I love that Aaron and the bois are doing something cool and unique

Don’t want another Isis. I just want the focus of What One Becomes. I’ve enjoyed these last two releases in spurts but the experimental side isn’t always engaging.

I just want these guys’ improv sections to have more momentum

I wish they had less

WOB is incredible and Love in Shadow still kept me in it, but this one tested my patience more than I cared for. although I think testing people's patience is Aaron's new artistic mission anyway, so bravo. he's just continuing to follow the muse that brought us this project in the first place and I'm grateful for that. I will say, their live show is equal parts pulverizing and mesmerizing - highly recommend.

Sumac would be the perfect EP band

Such a massive sound for only three guys.

All these users getting filtered by the Noise and Free Improv influenced sections. It's almost as if Aaron Turner always liked his music to be chaotic right from the get go.

What One Becomes is my favourite 'heavy' album of the decade.
