Gotta admit, it's been a while since I've jammed this. I'll give another listen soon

skip the interludes maybe, this looks bloated but the meat isn't much longer than the classics
I just want Paul to keep making music if it will be on this level [2]

Gave this approx. 3 seconds of patience before I wrote it off on release and I 100% forgot it even existed.
Even in 2011 Carbon Based Anatomy started to sour me on the band because of my schizo musical taste. Kindly Bent sealed the deal and even made me stop listening to their older stuff, which I kinda soured on.
I'm giving this its first proper chance and...it's better than I thought it would be. Yeah a couple of the interludes are wacky but I like most of them. The music is as dense and smooth as I want it to be and the added texture from the synths is welcome. We'll see how it sounds in my car on my way home.
Pleasantly surprised here. I'll probably turn it into a Spotify playlist of my cherrypicked bits. But this is nice.
Wild how much your state of mind going into a record can drastically alter your perception, and future memory, of it.
COVID-era lockdowns were NOT good for my mental health and anger back when this released. I'm in a much better place now and excited to listen to it a few times soon.

I remember liking this but it also felt verrrrry close to a Masvidal solo project, which is understandable, but a shame nonetheless.

it is a good thing that this thing exists tbqh. mucho respect to Masvidal for hanging in there and doing something creative with the shit hand everyone in this band has been dealt
but sad times do not a decent album make

Context is cool agreed but yes luckily for this album it is good music that makes a good album
Do think some have splendidly missed Nomos’ point though which is that context can affect how one experiences music. A jam in the month of February with X Y and Z going on in one’s life can render an album unlistenable or simply mid whereas that same album in in November with A B and C going on may result in an entirely different experience! So it’s not simply the music one is experiencing but one’s own taste at that point in time.

My enjoyment of metal is affected by my second order desire to not be the sort of nerd who enjoys metal

Diamond Light Body is like a shinier take on classic Cynic electronified through synth bass and breakbeaty drumbeats here and there, and with a kind of gazey climax to close the album. So good
Really hope we get more music
