"your 3.9 ain't too shabby either ;)"

yeah i think i like this a tiiiny bit less than schmaltz and brave faces (which are pretty tied for me) but also feels like this will grow.. lots of lovely subtle stuff here i haven't fully wrapped my head around yet :]

curious to see if it does!

"Ok let's bring the positivity back to this glorious record.

For starters, great review Atari, and no wonder you're only sporadically reviewing these days, when the thread just turns into a personal critique pissing contest.

I know the album is called No Joy, and that's exactly how I feel when I open Sputnik these days, not going to elaborate here.

Back to the album, great direction for the band to be going, steering away from the sadboi emo punk sound, to more of a sandman indie rock sound with new wave/post punk elements scattered throughout. Lyrics are great as usual, Slocum has a gift of capturing the most mundane obscure depressive moments in life. I'm also liking the diversity in the guitar and keyboard on this.

Kinda wished this album came out in the depths of winter."

OH SHIT, y'all done gone and triggered the one and only Sloth

cheers man, seeing your 4.5 just feels right. was wondering if some of the changes would vibe with you or not. nice descriptions there too! I also think this one will really hit the spot in the fall

17% imperial brown ale, aged in wheated old elk bourbon barrels and conditioned on amburana wood and toasted coconut.

This would bring me joy.

I don’t understand how this is a 5. Such a let down from “Brave Faces Everyone”, which was a classic.
