I think Sufjan may lean more contemporary that most let on, and most of it is acoustically driven and very much folk, hence the pastoral tag. Maybe it's just me, but it was one of the first comparisons I made while listening to this.

C&L doesn't have the rustic leanings that pastoral suggests to me, but idk there are more important hills to fight over lol

anyways I really don’t know what to make of this on first listen. I love the title track, it’s one of her best songs. but on a lot of this the vocal layering and other embellishments feel like they’re just shoehorned in and I know I complain about production a lot but it really is remarkably bad on most of this. that one spacey bit toward the end of Anime Eyes is unreal, how was it released like that

Maybe it's just a decade-ish of me reinforcing to myself that C&L is pastoral. Either way, I agree that it's a relatively minor point. Seven Swans is more pastoral for sure.

the most pastoral modern folk I can think of offhand is Fleet Foxes debut

That's probably accurate, although I tend to think of pasotral as having a very open, earthy feel whereas their debut is very cavernous.

But yeah, re: this album, the title track is for sure an all time Kacey great.

I will become Kacey’s strongest Anime Eyes defender

I can see both receptions. It's a little bit zany towards the end there, but I like that. Could also easily see why someone would hate it though lol.

Loving this so far. That average seems way too low

Thinking this could get the bump to a 4.5. It's just so lovely and it instantly puts me at ease.

Halfway through this record, it sounds very relaxing indeed.

Yeah, definitely not the kind of album to go out of its way to impress, but it's very easy to sink into. Incredibly lush.

None of the tracks really stood out for me so far, but it flows very smooth as a whole.

Highlights for me are the title track, Too Good to be True, and The Architect -- but as you said, it's a very consistent offering.

Bleh, Golden Hour wasn’t even that good. Every year some random pop girl is sent forth to eat up all the awards and reviews and it just so happened to be her that year. I have never understood the praise for that album so I’m gonna stay far away from this.

This is a different kind of album than Golden Hour, but honestly if you didn't like that LP then chances are you won't like anything from Kacey.
