Far from being a novelty album, Elton John's "The One" sees the artist revisiting the pop/rock roots that marked his carrier in the 1970's.
While "Simple Life" describes the problems he's been dealing with at that time, the title track's uncanny vibes grasp you in their spell from start to finish. The piano solo at the end of "Sweat It Out" is a must. "Runaway Train" manages to kick it into fifth gear, with a little help from friend, Eric Clapton. "The Last Song" - a shattering ballad about AIDS - written not long after the death of longtime friend Freddie Mercury, sees Elton giving his most wholeheartedly performance.
All in all, it is the comeback album the fans have been craving for.
