The Melbourne based Trio are back with their second release It's For Your Own Good which was released only a year after their first EP Hellbound. Their growth in their music in such a short amount of time is substantial, Chris has goten better on guitar and has written and structured songs heaps better, the bass and the drums not only keep the quick rapid rhythm, but they also add so much more to the songs. Where it is probably most evident of the bands progression and growth (instrumentally speaking) is best shown on the last track, the bridge on this track is an absolute killer IMO.
Much more than expected from your average 3 piece band. The only down side is theres only 6 tracks on the disc, however the quality of the songs more than make up for that. The opening track ‘From Here On In’ was the song that have them their first taste of mainstream success, it is a very lively and catchy song. Followed up by English Army which has a simple but effective intro, the chorus is infectious, probably one of the best Living End songs IMO. ‘Problem’ sounds a lot like ‘English Army’ probably the worst song on the album but it’s defiantly worth a listen. ‘One More Cell’ is an absolute killer song has a decent solo in it to; chorus is a big stand out in this song when you first listen to it. ‘Stay Away From Me’ has a more rockabilly feel to it, musically a brilliant song; the intro is defiantly the stand out of this song. And finally finishing off this fine release is it ’10.15 Saturday Night’ which as I mentioned is more instrumentally driven than all the other songs on the EP. This song is softer and slower than the rest but it is by no means worse, the bridge is mind blowing and the intro is solid. A fine way to cap off a brilliant record.
