Face it, Britney Spears' music is catchy. Yes, it isn't catchy to a lot of us (here at Mx) but she is one of the biggest pop idols in the world. No, she does not write her own music, but the people that do are the masters behind simple, catchy song writing. Yes, I do have two of her albums, and I am not ashamed. I have said nothing about liking either of the albums, or listening to them frequently. Of course, the highest possible rating this album could get is a 2.5 if you include Britney's singing, and I am not going to base it off of this, because I know you all hate this artist. I do not specifically enjoy it either, but I want you to listen to the actual songwriting. That is how I will base this review. So before you bash me on giving these songs such high ratings, read through this first, so you know how I am approaching this review.
1.
Oops!...I Did It Again: Starts off with very well produced layering of Britney's voice, and a simple drumbeat. If you listen closely, you can hear some nice bass in this song. Yes, I do not enjoy the lyrics much, but the songwriting is almost genius. Simple, but amazing. Overall Songwriting: 4/5
2.
Stronger: Starts off with an annoying synthesized (thing), which continues througout the song. I really hate this song actually. Not just the song overall, but the songwriting is not even close as well done as Oops... But I will not deny that the producing in Britney Spear's cd's is amazing. 2/5
3.
Don't Go Knockin' On My Door: This song is actually very catchy. I really like the music in this song. Drums=good, keyboard thing is good :(, and bass is very well done. The chorus in this song is quite stupidly written in my opinion, but how everything mixes together is brilliant. These people behind the singer are amazing. 4/5
4.
I Can't Get No) Satisfaction: Of course, she really butchered this song. Even the music sucks. I really cannot be fair when viewing this song, because it is so bad... Producing is the only plus in this song. 1/5
5.
Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know: Another catchy, slower song. With weird synth effects at the beginning. Production=superb, drum machine is very well programmed. The bass is harder to notice, but it is also well mixed. Even Britney's voice isn't bad in this song. One of the better ones. 4/5
6.
What U See (Is What U Get): A typically written pop-song (specifically Britney) Nothing special here. Very plain bass line, along with drum machine, and it just has very low standards compared to some of the songwriting on this song. 1/5
7.
Lucky: I think this was the second single. I don't specifically like Britney's voice, but the music isn't bad. Great guitar, especially how they mixed it. Drum machine isn't specifically original or great, and neither is the chorus. This is one of those middle-written songs. Not really great, but better than the crappy ones. 2.5/5
8.
One Kiss From You: Starts out with a very weird faded in, mixed guitar, and drum machine. Not another one of my favorites. The bass isn't bad in this song though. Neither is the guitar, but the pre-chorus is definately catchy, along with the chorus. 3/5
9.
Where Are You Now: Beautiful intro. Very well produced, with good acoustic guitar, and weird jingly effects. :o But this song is beautiful, and well written. A bit of the typical effects in slow, pop songs, but one of the better songs on this album. 4/5
10.
Can't Make You Love Me: Typical Spears song. Bass is nice in this song, along with the guitar effects (can't tell if that was actually done, or if it was mixed/produced that way) Chorus is catchy. Not extremely well written, but very catchy, and I don't see why this song didn't get radio play. 3/5
11.
When your Eyes Say It: Very synth intro. With a cool drum machine beat. Britney is "whispering in your ear" which would give any man a bone. Just admit it. Another catchy song. Typical pop song though, which is the only minus. Drum machine is groovy though. 3.5/5
12.
Dear Diary: Nice keyboard intro (of course it isn't technical ;) ) but very well written. Britney is talking about her diary. What a fag. But anyway, the keyboard is good in this song, and it is really one of the only instruments used in the verse, besides a few more jingly effects, and a keyboard-based orchestra, which makes a nice effect. But this song is catchy, and I like it. 4/5
Musically, these people behind the main singer are brilliant. In order to write very catchy, simple stuff, you have to know how to write complicated stuff, and this is why I give these people respect.
Overall rating.
3.2/5
