Review Summary: The debut EP from twigs. Perhaps no the strongest, but it stands for itself.
The first EP by UK R&B singer FKA twigs, released independently on vinyl in December 4 of 2012 under Young Turks label.
The best thing about this Extended Play it's probably twigs' vocals, with her acute voice, she could give you goosebumps, making you want to listen more and more about the artist.
The music... Instrumentals are amazing, every single beat it's planned to be in that dramatic form, making you want to dance and sing all around...
Unfortunately, this results suffocating. The lyrics aren't poor written at all, but this EP (just like EP2) is just a mantra of short phrases and words.
The album starts with 'Weak Spot', this could be an amazing start, and instead of the poor start it was... the robotic voice wasn't pretty enjoyable. But at the end you ask yourself: why every chorus isn't like this, huh?
Then you get one of the most powerful songs on the album: 'Ache'. This one, indeed, it's pretty enjoyable. The chorus, it's basically 'I ache for you', masked as a longer chorus, repeating every word over and over (I, I, I, I, ache, ache, for, you, you, you, you, ah, ah, ah, ah).
Then there's 'Breathe', this was not such a highlight as 'Ache' or 'Hide', but it has probably the most complex lyrics in the EP.
At the end, we found ourselves with 'Hide', probably the best song in the record, it's really good, and twigs performed it live a couple times, including at the BRIT awards, with 'Pendulum'. This song looks like one of twigs' favorite. This EP is not the best EP in the world, but it's really enjoyable. It's not the best twigs' EP, either. Actually, every EP gets better and better, from the amazing EP2, to the incredible M3LL1XX5. LP1 was like the revelation of twigs'. This EP was just the beginning of all.
