I'm not familiar with all of Murphy's solo oeurvre, but I am a fan of a number of his recordings (both solo and with Bauhaus). Consequently I evaluated this record on its own merits, rather than comparing it to previous efforts. "Lion" has dark, heavily textured songs with powerful vocal performances. Youth's production is deep and rich. A very satisfying album.
