I honestly don't know where the low ratings are coming from, there is no way objectively this deserves below a 3, unless of course the CDs are dramatically different in quality to the Blu-ray...rAnyway, I think this is their best live release. Great performance, outstanding setlist - Half of Awake, 1/3 of Scenes, Trail of Tears, Breaking All Illusions, Illumination Theory plus many more. rProduction is also supurb and the best yet of any Mangini-era album. The drums are VERY powerful on this (just listen to the start of Shattered Fortress) and keyboard can be heard nicely. The added orchestra is truly epic on songs like Illumination Theory and Finally Free. rAlso, unlike Luna Park in places, this actually sounds LIVE, with plenty of crowd noise and a nice touch of raw-ness.rThe stage set is the bands best yet and the filming is supurb, crisp and clear.rOverall, if you're a DT fan I'd highly recommend this blu-ray. The quality of the performance and package is a must for fans, although it would have been cool to have a few more extras, such as a tour documentary and more behind the scenes stuff.

This is probably one of their better live releases and filmed Blu-Ray's. Their singer James Labrie sounds much better here
than he has on other live releases, and their drummer Mike Mangini really puts on a show. The mix is nice, and everything is
fairly audible. Oddly enough, the audience is more audible in this release than the Live at Luna Park release, which had
thousands more people in attendance. I am a fan of live concerts sounding live, not like they are recorded in a studio. The
only downside is the setlist. Illumination Theory is not one of their better songs and it takes up twenty minutes of the show.
The real highlights of the show are Trial of Tears and Breaking All Illusions. If you are interested in Dream Theater and want
to see a live show from them, this is an excellent starting point for beginners or for fans who want to get a little more live
experience from the ol' prog Dreaming Theater.

Fantastic set including mostly their (underrated) s/t album, Awake and SFaM. Song selections are superb, and it is easily
the best sounding and looking DT live album to date. Everybody's tone is fantastic, and it has what has to be James' best
vocal performance of the decade. Only true complaint is Mangini's pull towards playing hi-hats on parts where Portnoy
used the crash or china. Makes the drumming sound a bit dry. Lastly, the (in-tune, looking at you score) orchestra adds so
much to SFaM.

With their 30th birthday looming, Dream Theater releases another film. This one, filmed back in April at the Boston Opera House, has more in common with Score than their previous film (both feature a local orchestra at the end). It features a good chunk of material from their self-titled 12th LP, and also the second half of their now-classic "Awake" album. Did I forget the epic finale is made of choice cuts from "Metropolis, pt. 2"?? As always, there's a good range of diversity and even stronger musicianship (for example, Mangini steals the show during "Enigma Machine", and the band's take on "Space-Dye Vest" would make Kevin Moore proud). However, the sound mix is uneven like always (Bass is flat and lacks power, while vocals, drums, guitars and symphonic elements up front). Some of it may have to do with the venue's acoustics, while others have blamed Richard Chycki's mix job. Who knows? I still recommend this film to DT fans and newcomers alike, but next time out, the band may want to dial Steven Wilson and his technical department.

Another album. Another tour. Another live album. Another expensive commemorative box set for the live album. This is Dream Theater in 2014. At least BtFW is not as bad as the high budget butchery of Live at Luna Park.
