Not really enough going on here to keep me interested. Not a bad album, but I'd expect better out of Giant Squid.

Every time Giant Squid are starting to lose me in a slow, plodding jam, they come back with a cascading tsunami of sound that consumes me wholly (much like the titular proto-Greek people whose mysterious demise is the focus of this album).

I fell asleep on this band after Ichthyologist and after 7+ years they still haven't been able to wake me up. It's almost the equivalent of a yawn that you somehow just can't shake. The Ichthyologist is so gd good for most of its runtime I hate to say it, but it's looking like this band is mid at best, with one home-run to its name. All the middling traits of the previous record but hardly any of the *spice* that gave it flavor. It's tofu.
